The JLC Melbourne

In 2009, the JLC (Sydney) joined forces with the Melbourne Sha'arei Tefillah community (under the guidance of Rabbi Aryeh Berlin) to establish the JLC Melbourne branch. Sha'arei Tefillah is a vibrant community providing Shiurim, learning programmes, as well as many successful social events. They have also had the opportunity to be involved in a number of outreach activities, including the very successful trips of Rabbi Kaplan, Rabbi Becher and our own David Shaw.

Rabbi Berlin Born in London, England, Rabbi Berlin studied in Gateshead, and then in Israel, receiving his Rabbinical Ordination (Semicha) in July 2000. He also completed the Ohr Lagolah Outreach and Leadership programme through Ohr Somayach. In October 2000, he moved with his family to Melbourne, Australia, to become a member of the Kollel Beth HaTalmud. Over the past eight years, Rabbi Berlin has been involved in many community projects, giving - as well as organizing - shiurim for both working people and university students alike.

His warm and understanding approach, combined with an ability to deliver shiurim of high calibre, has made him a well sought after lecturer in the Melbourne community.

In October 2005, he started Sha’arei Tefillah, a young vibrant community that filled a significant gap in the Melbourne community
